The Moment During a Character Building Visit With Students of SMK N 2 Paguyaman
Hello everyone. I would like to tell you about one of my experience with my friends while undergoing a teaching program at a school, which is abbreviated as MBKM. A little introduction, my friends and I were placed at SMK N 2 Paguyaman. The story that I will write is an activity of us who work together with the school.
This activity is a character education visit where we invite students to Gorontalo City to visit two places, namely the Mess Haji and the Gorontalo Museum. For students who participate specifically in grade 10 provided that they have received parental consent. Apart from us, the students were also accompanied by several teachers who participated in the activity. On that sunny Tuesday morning on November 22, we got ready with a happy heart.
So that students can be supervised easily, the teacher suggests dividing into several groups and 1-2 from us are responsible for each group and each group will ride in a car. My friend and I guided a group two. The thing that quite overwhelmed me at first was because all the members were male students. Since we have been teaching at the school for a long time, we certainly know how naughty male students can be. However, my expectations were too high because it turned out that the students in my group often chatted and of course made jokes, they didn't make a mess.
I had so much fun during the trip and stared out the window while occasionally checking on the students behind me. Occasionally I open up a chat especially when there are three students from the department in which my class teaches. Even though sometimes my friend and I shake our heads because their questions tend to be personal, we still appreciate their initiative in breaking the ice.
Nearly two hours of travel I did not sleep, neither did the students. Their tired faces lit up as soon as we arrived at Mess Haji, our first destination. Before entering the teacher bought tickets for all of us. After that we directed them all to take pictures together near the fountain.
Then we directed our students to explore every corner of the Mess Haji, starting with visiting the mock Kaaba. They are scrambling to hold the Black Stone as if it were the real thing. The teacher also gave a little explanation and the students seemed to nod in understanding. My friend and I are quite overwhelmed watching our group of students because they are a bit difficult to work with in this matter.
Then the students were directed to the building as if it were the hills of Safa and Marwah. They were invited to go up and down and then given another explanation that the two hills were used for jog as the actual pilgrimage ritual. They were also told that afterwards they would throw jumroh or small stones. There were students who captured those moments and it was clear that they were enthusiastic.
Then after a lunch break, we continued our journey to the Gorontalo Museum which is located in Tamalate, Kota Timur District. I thought the students were no longer enthusiastic, but it turned out that being in a museum increased their curiosity. However, of course, before entering there is a museum staff who explains what things can and can't be done.
It's really my first time there and I'm really happy. See the museum's collections such as several statues of the heads of important figures, antique bicycles, pictures of airport maps, paintings of warrior figures, historical weapons, antique objects, musical instruments, and even on the second floor there is a small room that explains Gorontalo's customs. especially wedding customs.
However, what is most interesting about the museum for me is the mummy or replica of the Oluhuta human skeleton which is hundreds of years old. The skeleton was forbidden to touch. There is some information stating that the skeleton is the original prehistoric human skeleton found in Oluhuta Village, Kabila Bone District, Gorontalo Regency. I got goosebumps when observing for a long time.
After the activity, we were directed by the staff to take pictures on the banner that read the Instagram account of the Gorontalo Archaeological Museum. Even though the students were a bit difficult to manage, the photo-taking procession went smoothly. I and my fellow students were very happy that the activity ran smoothly.
Actually the students wanted to look around the 4 UNG campus area. Unfortunately, because of the rush of time, the teachers could not give permission. We immediately returned to Paguyaman and arrived after Maghrib time. The students returned to their homes and so did we. My friends and I immediately lay down as soon as we arrived at the post. Really tired and really impressive.
