The change of Gorontalo State IKIP to Gorontalo State University was stipulated by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia number 54 of 2004 dated June 23, 2004. The State University of Gorontalo (UNG) is a university that was developed on the basis of the wider mandate of the Gorontalo State IKIP. The existence of Gorontalo State University cannot be separated from the FKIP Junior College, North-Central Sulawesi University, Manado in Gorontalo. Along the way for 50 years, Gorontalo State University now has 10 faculties and 1 postgraduate program. Based on the 2018 Webometrics version of university ranking data in the world, the State University of Gorontalo is ranked 154 (Southeast Asia) and 42 (Indonesia). The results of a visit by a higher education accreditation body some time ago confirmed that the State University of Gorontalo was listed as the best higher education institution with an A accreditation.
